A GIFT SEED

Accelerated Genetic Improvement of Fir Through Sequencing, Economics, Extension, & Diagnostics

The goal of A GIFT SEED is to extend genetic improvement for fir (Abies spp.) by accelerating the domestication process, and delivering increased value to the U.S. Christmas tree industry through a transdisciplinary, systems-based approach.

Through international collaboration between nine world-class research institutions across four different countries, the A GIFT SEED team aims to execute deliverables from five primary objectives that are founded upon exploratory, applicable research and industry feedback.

The A GIFT SEED objectives are: (1) Genetic Improvement & Production, (2) Pest Management & Climate, (3) Post-Harvest & Consumer Preference, (4) Economics & Sustainability, and (5) Extension & Engagement.
