The Wood Education and Resource Center of Princeton, West Virginia hosted together with the NCSU Wood Products Extension the National Firewood Workshop at the Cooperative Extension Office in Statesville, North Carolina on April 27th, 2017. This one day event was a gathering of split firewood professionals that discuss all the aspects involved in operating a profitable firewood manufacturing business.
This workshop has been held twice in West Virginia at the Wood Education and Resource Center, at the Albany County Cooperative Extension Office in Voorheesville, New York, and at the Western Maryland Research and Resource Center in Keedysville, Maryland. In the future we hope to host the National Firewood Workshop in the Great Lakes Region.
The National Firewood Workshop focuses on the important elements important to operating a profitable firewood business, including-
- Log sourcing from rural and urban forests
- Splitter and firewood processing equipment
- Insect and quarantines
- Marketing of firewood
- Business management
- Firewood dry kilns and seasoning methods
