Intro to Rx Burning Workshop- Collins, MS- May 15, 2014

In conjunction with the MS Prescribed Fire Council, the SERPPAS Prescribed Fire Work Group has gained support from NRCS to conduct an Introduction to Prescribed Burning Workshop in Collins, MS on May 15, 2014.

The workshop will cover basic considerations for landowners interested in conducting prescribed burns and provide the opportunity to interact with professional fire practitioners (note: this is not a certification course).

Agenda topics include:

  • benefits of prescribed burning;
  • legal responsibilities;
  • fire weather;
  • smoke management;
  • burning techniques;
  • and prescribed burning plans.

If weather permits, a prescribed burn will be conducted on site.

Representatives from the MS Prescribed Fire Council, MS Forestry Commission, MSU Extension, NC State University Extension Forestry, Southern Fire Exchange, USFWS, and USFS, as well as landowners, consultants, and more will be on-site to provide local knowledge and answer questions.

The workshop is $10 and to adequately prepare for lunch, we respectfully request that attendees pre-register by Friday, May 9. Find the meeting announcement, driving directions, and registration information here.
