Super Scholars and Admitted Student Visitation Day

By guest blogger, Bobby Oglesby

South Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Arizona

On February 15th and 16th, the Paper Science and Engineering Program hosted seven out of state Super Scholars and parents. There were many states represented at this event; two candidates from Virginia, two from South Carolina, one from Arizona, and two from Florida. NC State cake

Our program has continued to obtain widespread popularity among surrounding states and rightfully so! The students came this weekend to attend individual interviews with an alumni/industry panel, individual interviews with a current student panel, take tours if they had not already done so, make paper. Their parents joined them this weekend, but they had a slightly different agenda which included hearing from many members of the faculty in the department including the department head about the amazing environment that they would be putting their young adults in if they decided to come to our program or as a like to say our “family.” The parents also got to get some honest insight from a panel of current students in the PSE program answering any questions that they had. The students and parents travelled all the way to Raleigh so that the students could compete for a very coveted series of scholarships being offered by the NC State Pulp and Paper Foundation. It was a very long two days for these students and parents, but we hope that they truly enjoyed it!

Admitted Student Visitation day draws record numbers

Additionally, this was our first year to combine the admitted student visitation day for early round admits with the paper super scholars’ event.  On Monday, the 16th, we hosted a total of 22 students and their families to experience NC State, the college of Natural Resources and the Paper Science program.  The 28 current students and 7 faculty/staff that volunteered in some part during these two days were energized by these amazing high school students and what they have to offer NC State!ASD welcome

Thank you!

The Paper Science and Engineering program would like to thank the Super Scholars, parents, alumni, industry, current students, and the faculty that made this weekend a success! Many of these students hear about our program through local presentations made by corporate partners and alumni. Without all of the time that many people donated this particular weekend and beyond, none of this would be possible!
